So you’re probably here because you’re curious about what is involved with a Lifestyle Newborn Session, and why the fancy name? The truth is Lifestyle Newborn Sessions are anything but fancy! A Lifestyle Newborn Session is a newborn session that takes place in your home. Usually the first couple weeks after baby is born. These kinds of sessions are minimally posed, with more candid and raw moments with baby. I document your time with your baby, and offer a few posed sets as long as baby is for it. Lifestyle Newborn Session can be held in a studio. To achieve a relaxed, airy, and calming environment I highly recommend a natural light studio.
How far in advance do I need to schedule my session?
When it comes to scheduling your Lifestyle Newborn Session, it’s generally recommended to plan and book your session during the second trimester of your pregnancy. This will help ensure that you secure a spot with your desired photographer and allow them to allocate the necessary time for your session. By scheduling in advance, you can also discuss any specific ideas or preferences you have for the session with your photographer, allowing them to better tailor the experience to your vision. Remember, each photographer’s availability may vary, so it’s best to reach out as early as possible to secure your preferred date.
What if my house isn’t “picture perfect”?
Not every house needs to be “pretty” or “picture perfect” to be a home. Beauty can be found in the imperfections and uniqueness of a house. Instead of focusing on appearance, think about how your house reflects your personality and values. Your baby will grow up inside those walls, and will become who they are. It’s part of you and what makes your family special! Remember, the true beauty of a home lies in the happiness and love that fills its walls. As your photographer, this is what I’m here to capture. To document this special, and intimate time for you and your baby. Capturing all the little details that make your family who they are.
If you do not want to have your session in your home, you always have the option to have a studio session. Things to look for when planning a Studio Lifestyle Newborn Session- aim for one with ample natural light, pretty windows, a cozy bed, sofa, and pretty wood floors/rugs are always a plus! This allows for us to shoot in a couple different areas, and give you plenty of variety image wise to choose from. There are many gorgeous studio in the Dallas- Ft.Worth area! Studio fees vary and are not included in the collection cost.
Do you provide props, wraps and clothing for baby?
Once your session is confirmed, you will receive a questionnaire that helps me design your session. Your answers will help customize your newborn session to you and your style! You have access to my assortment of wraps in all different colors, vessels, and implements. I bring everything the day of so you can see it all in person, and choose what you would like incorporated. I always love when a family includes special heirlooms, and meaningful props into their session.
How long do Lifestyle Newborn Sessions take?
Typically newborn sessions average about 90 minutes. Some take all of 3 hours, or a little over an hour for others. It all depends on baby, and how they are doing. Some babies do not like being handled, or swaddled so they get a little fussy and require a break. It’s always best to let baby lead the way! There have been sessions where baby was not having it and a return visit was required a few days later to finish the session. Newborns are anything but predictable. The last thing we want is mama’s and babies stressed during their session!
Do you provide a client closet?
Yes! A client closet is something I added in 2022, and it’s been a massive hit for my clients! The last thing you want to do after having a baby is to shop for clothes. My closet includes several custom gowns and dresses, all ranging in different sizes, and prints. Once your session is booked you will receive a link to my closet, where you will create a favorites list of what you might like to try. On the day of, I will bring your choices and give you time to try pieces on and decide what you’d like to wear.
Who will be photographed?
Lifestyle Newborn Sessions typically include everyone that resides in the home, including the dogs if you desire! Extended family is not usually included. If there are any older siblings, I will do a couple posed photos, but aim to capture candid and raw moments of the whole family. Final galleries are always good mixed of poses, and candid.
