I’m Shelly — a camera in one hand and a joke ready in the other. Let’s make photos that feel easy, natural, and full of life.

I feel like wedding photography on social media has become a lot of golden hour kisses and perfectly posed portraits lately… and don’t get me wrong, I LOVE those moments too. But honestly? Some of my favorite images from a wedding day happen once the reception starts.
This is usually the part of the day where everyone finally relaxes a little. The timeline stress is over, the ceremony nerves are gone, and people can just be fully present. That’s when the real moments start happening.
The hugs from grandparents.
Your college friends absolutely losing it on the dance floor.
Your parents watching everything from their table for a quiet second.
The blurry, chaotic, joy-filled moments you don’t even realize are happening while you’re living them.
As a McKinney wedding photographer, I’ve noticed that couples always end up loving these photos more than they expected to. They may not be the perfectly polished “Pinterest” images, but they feel the most like the day actually did.
I also think reception lighting deserves more love. Flash photos, candles, DJ lights, movement—it creates such a fun energy and adds so much variety to a gallery. Not every photo has to be soft and glowy to be meaningful. Some of the best images are the loud, colorful, imperfect moments right in the middle of the party.

When I help couples build their timeline, I always encourage them to leave room for reception coverage. Your wedding gallery should tell the whole story—not just the pretty parts before sunset.
Because years from now, you’re probably not going to care if every strand of hair was perfectly in place. You’re going to care about how it all felt. And a lot of that feeling happens after dark.
