5 Budget-Friendly Things to Do With Kids This Fall in Frisco + DFW
October 2, 2026
Fall in North Texas is finally here—or at least the version of fall where we can occasionally go outside without immediately regretting it.
If you have kids, you also know how quickly a “fun little Saturday activity” can somehow turn into a $150 outing. Between admission, food, drinks, parking, and every child suddenly needing a souvenir, it adds up FAST.
So I put together five fun, budget-friendly fall activities for kids in Frisco and DFW. Several of these are completely free, which makes them even better.
1. Pumpkins on the Prairie in Frisco
If you want the pumpkin patch experience without paying a big admission fee just to walk through the gate, this is such a good option.
Pumpkins on the Prairie is at Grace Avenue United Methodist Church in Frisco and runs throughout October. There is no entry fee, and kids can enjoy the pumpkin patch, hay labyrinth, pumpkin play area, scavenger hunt and bounce house. They also have additional activities on weekends.
You only pay if you decide to purchase pumpkins, food or some of the extra activities.
Pack some snacks, let the kids run around, take the obligatory pumpkin pictures and call it a fall afternoon.
Where: 3521 Main Street, Frisco
When: October 1–31, 2026
Admission: FREE
2. DFW Fall Fest at Frisco Fresh Market
Mark October 17 on your calendar because this one has a LOT going on for a free event.
DFW Fall Fest is coming to Frisco Fresh Market with live entertainment, pumpkin decorating, petting zoos, face painting, balloon artists, character appearances, games, giveaways and other activities for kids.
Both admission and parking are free.
Obviously there will be food and vendors tempting you once you’re there, but technically you can show up with the kids and have an entire morning of activities without spending anything.
Where: Frisco Fresh Market
9215 John W. Elliott Drive, Frisco
When: Saturday, October 17, 2026
Admission: FREE
Parking: FREE
3. Have a Fall Picnic + Park Day
This one sounds almost too simple, but my kids are usually just as happy with a playground, snacks and room to run as they are with something I paid $30 per person to get into.
Grab lunch or pack one from home and head to a park.
Frisco has some really good ones. Frisco Commons is an easy family favorite because you can make an afternoon out of it. There’s a large playground at Hope Park, walking areas, a pond and plenty of space to spread out.
Kaleidoscope Park is another fun option if you want something a little different. Bring a blanket, grab coffee on the way and let the kids play.
And once the temperatures finally cooperate, a park afternoon in October or November is pretty hard to beat.
Cost: FREE, other than whatever snacks you inevitably bring.
4. Go to a Free Outdoor Movie at PGA Frisco
This one is especially fun once the evenings start cooling down.
PGA Frisco is hosting Friday night outdoor movies in The District, with spooky movies scheduled throughout October.
Bring blankets, get everyone comfortable and watch a movie outside. Concessions and restaurants are available nearby, but you can keep the evening inexpensive if you aren’t planning a full dinner out.
This would also be such a fun alternative to another night sitting at home watching a movie on the couch.
Where: PGA Frisco – Movie Night Schedule
October movie nights: October 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30
Cost: FREE
5. Make a Day Out of Frisco’s Free Halloween Events
If your kids are already counting down the days until they can wear their costumes, Frisco has several free Halloween events worth putting on your calendar.
On October 24, Trick or Treat the Square is happening at Frisco Square with carnival games, inflatables, horse wagon rides, treats and trick-or-treating around the businesses.
You can also head over to the Rail District that afternoon, where participating merchants will be handing out treats.
Both events run from 1–4 PM, so you could easily make an afternoon out of it.
Let the kids wear their costumes, bring their candy buckets and enjoy one of those outings that actually feels like a whole event without having to buy tickets for everyone.
When: Saturday, October 24, 2026
Cost: FREE
Fall Fun Doesn’t Have to Be Expensive
Some of my favorite memories with my kids aren’t from elaborate outings. They’re usually the random afternoons when we packed snacks, went somewhere local and just spent time together.
And thankfully, there are plenty of things to do with kids around Frisco and DFW this fall that don’t require spending a fortune.
Save this list for the next time your kids ask, “What are we doing today?” because we all know it’s coming.
And while you’re making those fall memories, don’t forget to actually get IN some of the pictures too.
